NO-GI & WRESTLING
Fast, slippery, grip-free grappling. Submission chains, takedowns, and scrambles for MMA and modern no-gi competition.
Grip-free grappling
No-Gi & Wrestling At Tampa BJJ
No-Gi & Wrestling strips away the jacket and changes the whole game. Without collars and sleeves to grip, everything speeds up: scrambles get wild, control comes from body position and hooks instead of cloth, and the pace rewards conditioning and timing. It's the style you see in MMA and in modern events like ADCC — and it's a blast to train.
This program blends no-gi Brazilian Jiu Jitsu with real wrestling. That means we don't just teach you what to do on the ground — we teach you how to get the fight to the ground on your terms, and how to stay on top once you're there.
Who This Class Is For
- Grapplers who love a faster, more athletic pace
- MMA-minded athletes who need takedowns and scramble skills
- Gi students who want to round out their game without the jacket
- Anyone who wants serious conditioning disguised as fun
What You'll Learn
- Takedowns: singles, doubles, snap-downs, and how to chain them safely
- No-gi control: seatbelt, body locks, hooks, and underhooks
- Leg-lock entries and defense within a safe, level-appropriate system
- Guard passing and retention without grips to slow the pace
- Scramble literacy — winning the chaotic moments that decide no-gi matches
How The Program Works
Classes cover both standing and ground. We warm the body up properly for wrestling movements, drill takedowns with control so nobody gets hurt, then flow into the ground game where the submission grappling lives. You'll finish with live rounds that put the standup and the ground together.
Beginners are welcome — you'll be taught scaled, safe versions of everything and paired with partners who match your level. Experienced grapplers get the pace and the technical depth to seriously sharpen their no-gi game. Leg locks and other advanced positions are introduced responsibly, with an emphasis on control and tapping early while learning.
No-gi is where a lot of members fall in love with the athletic side of grappling. It builds cardio, explosiveness, and the kind of composure that only comes from surviving a hundred scrambles.
Why Train No-Gi & Wrestling Here
We treat wrestling as a real skill, not an afterthought. Getting the takedown and staying on top wins matches and fights — so we coach it properly.
The program pairs perfectly with our gi classes. Train both and you become a complete, adaptable grappler who's dangerous in any ruleset.
Class Times
No-Gi & Wrestling runs midday and evening on select days — check the schedule and stack it with Open Mat for extra live rounds.

No-Gi & Wrestling FAQ
No. We teach takedowns from scratch with control and safety in mind. Beginners and gi-only students are welcome.
Yes, when it's coached well — which is our priority. You'll drill at a controlled pace and only spar at a level that's appropriate for you.
We do, responsibly. Leg entanglements are part of modern no-gi, so we introduce them with a clear emphasis on control, defense, and tapping early while learning.
A rash guard and shorts or spats — no zippers, buttons, or pockets. A snug athletic shirt works to start.
